What is Paper Battery ??
A Paper Battery could be a versatile, ultra-thin energy storage and production device shaped by combining carbon nano-tube's with a standard sheet of cellulose-based paper. A paper battery acts as both a high-energy battery and super electrical device.
This Innovative Invention was done in Stanford, Dec 8. By scientists at the Stanford University Where they came out with a noble invention and which is “Making battery out of ordinary paper”. It could very well be used as a lightweight battery to power the many electronic devices that are omnipresent in our lives today.
The Materials Required For the Preparation Of Paper Battery are:
Paper and Carbon nano ink.
1. Carbon nano ink which is black in colour is a solution of nano rods, surface adhesive agent and ionic salt solutions. Carbon nano ink is spread on one side of paper.
2. The paper is kept in oven at 150degree Celsius this evaporates the water content on the paper.
The battery is ready and would provide terminal voltage enough to power an LED.
Advantages:
1. Light, rugged, flexible , Made into any shape.
2. The use of paper increases the electron flow which is well suited for high performance applications.
3. Useful where burst energy is required for operation like electric vehicle’s.
4. If we cut paper in half we cut power by 50%. So we can control the power and voltage issue.
Limitations:
1. Carbon nanotubes are expensive.
2. Since cellulose has low shear strength, these batteries have low strength and can be torn easily.
